Chapter 17

they had known that the Messiah would be descended from David as God had promised. That is why Jesus said to the Jews, “If then David calls him ‘Lord,’ how can he be his son?” (Matt. 22:45). David witnessed Jesus as his Lord after he saw him in his vision. “The LORD (Jehovah) says to my Lord (Jesus): ‘Sit at my right hand until I make your enemies a footstool for your feet’” (Matt. 22:44, Ps. 110:1).

I’d like to discuss this, because we have to understand the chronology before we talk about the spiritual world. We have known about the Lord who came to this world. But do we know about the Lord who existed before he came to this world? Do we know about the Lord who exists after the resurrection? We can't.

The Bible describes our human ancestors; Adam and Eve were created by God and they lived in the Garden of Eden, not with God. Who was with God before the creation? Obviously, Jesus was with God as he said. He was not in the Garden of Eden. Before the creation of Adam and Eve, there wasn't the Garden of Eden (Gen. 2:8). If you knew this, you would understand the apostle, Paul’s words about the first and the second Adam.

Our human ancestors, Adam and Eve, could not live with God. The Garden of Eden was their home which was created after Adam. You need to understand this to understand why our Lord had to shed his blood in this world.

Why did God call our Lord ‘Immanuel’? The Bible said, “The virgin will be with child and will give birth to a son, and will call him Immanuel” (Is. 7:14). These were the words of God, not the words of a human. Then what is the meaning of Immanuel? It means “God with us,” (Matt. 1:23) indicating that Jesus would accomplish the requirements with which God can be with humanity.

Even if we became holy beings like Adam and Eve before they committed sin, we would not enter to the place where God is. We would only be able to get into a place like the Garden of Eden. Therefore if we do not become a spirit like the Lord, who was with God before the creation of the world, we could not be with God.

Let’s look at Revelations. “Now the dwelling of God is with men, and he will live with them. They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God” (Rev. 21:3). If some people are with God, it implies that they have
