Chapter 18

After he went back to heaven, he became worthy to take God’s scroll and to open its seven seals. “The Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has triumphed, he was able to open the scroll and its seven seals” (Rev. 5:5). Because he has triumphed, he became the highest priest in heaven. It is called the high priest in the order of Melchizedek (Ps. 110:4; Heb. 6:20).

What was his authority? It was his inheritance from God (Ps. 2:8). He was able to see the secret plan of God, which was known only to God, by opening the scroll.

After he learned about the plan of God, he recognized that some words he had spoken when he had been in this world had contradicted God’s plan. So he needed to correct them. But God has already designated his servants to correct them. They are the two Olive Trees mentioned in the book of Zechariah (Zech. 4:12-14).

It was the same prophet who prophesied “the Messiah will be coming” and “God will anoint two Olive Trees to serve him” (Zech. 3:8, 9, 4:11-14). The prophecy emphasized the connection between the Messiah and the two Olive Trees (Zech. 3:9, 4:10, 6:13). After the Messiah was sacrificed

in order for God to create 'the Water of Life' for humankind’s salvation, the two Olive Trees would do work for God to bring salvation to his people (Zech. 13:1, 14:8). But it was hidden in the Bible (Zech. 14:7).

Our Lord did not know about the connection between his work and the work of the two Olive Trees at all when he was in this world. After he went back to heaven, he knew about the plan that God had already made and how he would appoint the two Olive Trees for his plan. So the Lord announced to John the apostle that he would give power to his two witnesses, saying, “I will give power to my two witnesses, and they will prophesy for 1,260 days, clothed in sackcloth. These are the two Olive Trees and the two lampstands that stand before the Lord of the earth” (Rev. 11:3-4). He wanted someone who could overcome, so that he could set them as his witnesses and let them do what he described in Revelations, “I will also give him a white stone with a new name written on it, known only to him who receives it” (Rev. 2:17).

Therefore, the Overcomer (also referred to as the ‘Olive Tree’ in the Bible) would be told the hidden contents of the seven-sealed
