and his belongings home, but he should cross rivers when he met them and the move was difficult. He worried that his brother might find out his moving home and may hurt him and his family. He sent many gifts to his brother to soothe his anger toward him.
While he worried about his brother during his move, he had to cross a river of the Jabbok. The river was flowing to the Jordan River. He had sent his family and all his possessions to cross the stream. Jacob was left alone and he was tired, so he fell asleep. In his vision, a man wrestled him until daybreak.
When the man saw that he could not overpower Jacob, he touched the socket of Jacob’s hip so that his hip was wrenched as he wrestled with the man. Then the man said, “Let me go, for it is daybreak.” But Jacob replied, “I will not let you go unless you bless me.” The man asked him, “What is your name?”, “Jacob,” he answered. Then the man said, “Your name will no longer be Jacob, but Israel, because you have struggled with God and with men and have overcome” (Gen. 32:28). The man then blessed Jacob.
Jacob had overcome and he received the name of Israel, which
