can be cleansed with Jesus’ blood, but there is no guarantee that we would not commit sin again. Therefore, people such as martyrs who keep their faith to death are very valuable to God.

Isaac and Jesus

God commanded Abraham to offer his son Isaac for a burnt sacrifice (Gen. 22:2). The sacrifice of offering a child was common among Gentiles at that time. Abraham would have thought the command of God to be the same as any of sacrifice in those times. But God never commanded for human beings to be sacrificed, except for Jesus, his only Son. His command to Abraham to offer Isaac was the shadow of the sacrifice of Jesus. At the moment that Abraham tried to kill his son, an angel stopped him.

God was very angry that human beings created in his image were being delivered to Satan as a sacrifice. Canaanites used to offer their children to Molech, which was one of the reasons that God wanted to destroy Canaan with the Israelites (Lev. 20:2-5). God showed his wrath when human beings, which had been created for his glory, worshiped and glorified Satan. He grieved when the dignity of humanity

was undermined (Is. 42:8).

It was inevitable for God to give us his Son as a sacrificial offering. Since Adam and Eve became dirty after eating the fruit from the tree of knowledge, all human beings have been born with the original sin. The sins from their acts are also added to the inherited sin so that their blood becomes dirtier than it had been at their birth. All of the sins are also transferred from generation to generation. God could not help but to sacrifice of his only Son, in order to cleanse our sins. So he called Abraham to carry out his plan. The history of Israel after Abraham followed God’s plan to become a shadow, showing a preview of the will of God.

Jesus came to this world and was crucified on the cross according to the will of God. After God received the offering of Jesus’ sacrifice, he made the fountain of living water, which has been the only way to cleanse human beings from sin and impurity (Zech. 13:1). We are able to go to God’s world when our sin and impurity are completely cleansed so that we can obtain eternal life. Therefore, the water from the fountain is called ‘living water’ and gives us eternal
