years.” The ancient serpent is mentioned here. The serpent, called a snake, crawls on its belly. But the serpent in the Bible was not crawling at first. It was cursed by God because it lured Adam and Eve to eat the fruit from the tree of knowledge (Gen. 3:14).
The Bible described the serpent as more crafty than any of the wild animals the Lord God had made. The serpent urged Adam and Eve to eat the fruit which God commanded them not to eat, saying, “Pick it up and eat it. It will be fine.” They ate it. Then God appeared. He said to Adam, “Who made you eat from the tree that I commanded you not to eat from?” Adam said, “The woman you put here with me - she gave me some fruit from the tree, and I ate it.” Then the Lord God said to the woman, “What is this you have done?” The woman said, “The serpent deceived me, and I ate.” So the Lord God said to the serpent, “Because you have done this, cursed are you above all the livestock and all the wild animals!
