Chapter 9
“How can I count so many particles of dust?”

“Your descendents will be as many as the dust” (Gen. 13:16).

In another vision, God showed him stars and asked: “Look at the sky, what do you see?”

“I see stars.”
“Can you count the stars?”
“Oh! No. How can I count all the stars?”
“Your people will become like the stars” (Gen. 15:5).

God explained his covenant in those two ways. God told Abraham that he would make a great nation from him. God established covenant through blood with Abraham. It’s called circumcision. “This is my covenant with you and your descendants after you, the covenant you are to keep: Every male among you shall be circumcised” (Gen. 17:10).

Dear people, did Abraham get circumcised because he would to? Who ordered it? It’s God. God’s order itself is the providence of God. His order could be painful so that we may complain or suffer pain. But God has reason to order it according to his plan and he will reward us in the spiritual world if we follow his order and accomplish it.

Chapter 9

There was the covenant between God and Abraham. God said, “My people must be circumcised according to the covenant between you and me.” So if someone was not circumcised, they could not be among God’s people even if they wanted to be. But if someone was circumcised, they could have been a descendent of Abraham. I am telling you this to explain the procedure under which Jesus came to this world. Jesus and John the Baptist were also circumcised eight days after they were born (Luke 2:21).
