Chapter 10

The first covenant was between God and Abraham, so everything that happened in it was included in the first covenant. No matter how many prophets worked and how many kings were born, they were included in the covenant of Abraham, as said in the Bible, “I will make you very fruitful; I will make nations of you, and kings will come from you” (Gen. 17:6).

Then, when the new covenant occurred, it was the signal of the end of the first covenant. The hero of the new covenant was Jesus, as the hero of the first covenant was Abraham. Moses was an important prophet, but he was also included in the first covenant, he prayed in the name of the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob. But after Jesus, prayers have not been in that way. We have called God in the name of Jesus. The hero has been changed.

So the Bible is composed of the first covenant and the new covenant. The new covenant is the reality to take place in God’s plan and the first covenant was the shadow of the second one (Heb. 8:5).

Chapter 11

11. Isaac, the symbol of Jesus

From the sermon on June 29, 1975

When Abraham became one hundred years old, his wife Sarah had a son at a very old age, as God promised. God loved her, so he took care of the old lady and her baby.

As God taught, Abraham named the baby “Isaac”, who was born with God’s blessing (Gen. 17:19). When Isaac was eight days old, Abraham performed his Son’s circumcision according to the covenant with God. Abraham had a big banquet for Isaac when he was no longer breast-fed. Ishmael, who was born from Hagar, was already a man teenager. He mocked his half-brother Isaac, seeing the banquet for the little baby. When Sarah the mother of Isaac saw it, she requested Abraham that he should got rid of Ishmael
